Ruth finished her degree in Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering in 2002 and doctorate with a focus on structural control and optimisation of buildings in 2005 from Trinity College Dublin. She then spent a short time as a structural engineer before moving into the field of energy and sustainability in 2007 carrying out research in the areas of modern methods of construction, adaptable structures, energy efficient buildings and control systems engineering.
In 2011, Ruth joined Integrated Environmental Solutions Ltd. (IES). IES purpose is to develop technology to helps stakeholders decarbonise their built environment. Ruth’s initial responsibility was to grow the R&D division to help achieve this goal and keep IES at the cutting edge of the sustainable revolution. To date, the R&D division has been successful in acquiring 68 projects, across EU FP7, H2020 and Horizon Europe, InnovateUK and SEAI funding programmes, totally almost €24m. This has led to the delivery of many new software products in IES to help achieve the mission.
In 2021, Ruth was promoted to Chief Operating Officer (COO) for the company. She works closely with the CEO of IES Ltd. with respect to the strategic direction for the company and sits on the company’s Executive Board.
